Urban Splash-BUILD

Chimney Pot Park

Urban Splash-BUILD - the company with the vision for the regeneration of Langworthy, Salford.

A forty million pound redevelopment of the area which in conjunction with Salford City Council and English Partnerships would result in an innovative and unique scheme offering affordable housing for first time buyers.

A flexible choice of housing, the development centres around the Victorian terraces which retain many of their original features and exude “Coronation Street” character.

Referred to as the “upside down house” - whilst the facade of the houses look exactly as they did when originally built, a different story unfolds inside the properties with very modern and contemporary design with bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs and living space on the first floor with balconies and terracing.

LCS were asked to replicate heads, cills, and feature semi – circular segmented door arches which over the years had been damaged or decayed.

Following site visits and survey by the LCS design team, detailed drawings were taken and our pattern makers produced moulds to replicate the original Victorian semi-circular door arch design.

Samples for both colour and texture matching were made, and as the photographs show our individually hand-cast voussoirs in a homogenous semi-dry mix match those as used in the original build.

Similarly, from detail provided by Urban Splash-BUILD a semi-dry mix was used to re-create heads for the houses at each end of each row on each street! Again, these components were colour and textured matched to those of the original build as the photograph aside demonstrates.

The terraces on “Chimney Pot Park” were constructed over a hundred years ago and window cills were manufactured of a course aggregate mix, and subsequently painted.

To replicate the cills a wet-cast mix was used which would allow for a choice of finishes and subsequent over-painting as required.

LCS are proud to have been chosen as the architectural cast stone supplier to Chimney Pot Park and Urban Splash-BUILD
